chenIL(e)Y

Flashback a year ago and anything chenille screamed "outdated." However, it made a complete 180 this season. Everyone I know has at least one chenille item in their closet and I am absolutely an advocate. It took some warming up to but once I found the perfect chenille item I was obsessed! I purchased a hugely oversized chenille cardigan from a boutique called People's Nation in State College, PA. While it was kind of overpriced, I definitely get my money's worth out of it. It is so warm, soft, and comfortable that I throw it over literally everything. It makes all of my bummin' it outfits look cute which is definitely my favorite thing about it.

As much as ILY chenille, there are of course cons to every pro. Chenille's fatal flaw? It pulls like CRAZY. In the picture below you can see how much it pulls. Now I could understand if it had been through the wash a few times or if I had somehow gotten caught in a bush (lol) but this was after one very gentle wear, and no washes! The good thing is the fabric is so thick that the pulls don't cause holes, but it definitely takes away from the overall look of the fabric.
Ok, my last word about chenille: MITTENS! I got a pair of black chenille mittens on sale for about $10 from Urban Outfitters and OMG I am in love. They pull a bit too, but because they are black it is much harder to see these pulls. They are super cute (which is VERY important) but they are also this weird thing that my mom says is important: PRACTICAL! When I tell you the cold cannot get past these mittens I am not exaggerating. I have taken walks in 15 degree weather across campus and through NYC and while my nose feels like it may fall off, these mittens keep my hands in a cozy hug through any weather. All in all, chenille is the way to go for a perfect union of warmth, style and practicality.
